The French-American Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Chapter hosted its annual gala and award ceremony on May 6, 2016 at The Detroit Athletic Club. The gala, with a sold-out crowd of more than 200 attendees, celebrated the historical ties that connect Detroit with the French and also the economic impact that Michigan companies with French roots have on the region and the state.
The evening’s guest of honor and speaker was the Honorable Mike Duggan, Mayor of Detroit. At the gala, FACC Michigan announced a donation of $10,000 to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation, to be used in support of DPS’ Camp Burt Shurly, located in Chelsea, Michigan that provides a high quality summer camp experience for DPS students. French auto supplier and FACC member Faurecia matched the FACC Michigan contribution, bringing the total donation for Camp Burt Shurly to $20,000. Accepting the donations on behalf of the Detroit Public Schools Foundation was Alycia Meriweather, Interim Superintendent for Detroit Public Schools.
